The fall of 2007 saw the progression of ATO’s philanthropy through the leadership of our previous philanthropy chair, Matthew Poliner. We have started to make weekly trips to our non-profit partner, the Samuel L. Jones Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. In addition to these weekly trips, we have a mandatory 15 hours of community service hours that brothers must obtain every semester.
In addition to these weekly trips to the Boys and Girls Club, we have scheduled many other ways for brothers to obtain their 15 hours of community service. We just volunteered for the Charles Harris Run for Leukemia; which benefits cancer research at Emory University. We are also planning on working with Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life in the upcoming months.
Last semester we donated over $1500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta through “Chill and Grill” – a food selling event – which raised more than $1200 in three days. This semester our main fundraiser to the Boys and Girls Club is through “Dooley Presents;” which is an event where various a cappella and dance groups in Emory perform. We are in the early stages of planning our annual “Kicks for Casa” event, a fundraiser co-hosted with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority that raises money and awareness of the Court Appointed Special Advocates program. |
